I woke up this morning to rolling thunder, flashing lightening and RAIN! The sound of rain. Nothing in the earth quite like that sound. Made me feel closed in, cozy and warm inside as I watched the trees swaying in the wind and listened again to the distant thunder!
However, I was amazed at the pictures of the force of the wind later in the day. Huge 18 wheelers blown off the highway, hail damage and broken windows to many homes.
In my wee little world I teach about God, and sometimes I actually think I have a small understanding of who He is and his unchanging character.
But today as I watched the Heavens display His Glory I was reminded all over again that He is the Creator and the Supreme Ruler of the universe! He is HUGE! So much bigger than I can possibly comprehend. HE IS GOD! There is NONE beside him! He has no equal. HE IS GOD! Awesome in power, doing wonders! He has his way in the whirlwind, and in the storm. He rides on the wings of the wind! His voice strips the cedars bare and causes the deer to give birth. He is majestic! He sits enthroned in the heavenlies and laughs at the plans of men.
The word “power” means authority, influence, dominance, mastery, dominion, strength and might. Force, forcefulness, vigor, energy, muscular. There were many other adjectives but I was amazed at one in particular: “to have in the palm of one’s hand.” My soul was arrested as I saw this word picture. Even in the middle of my own storms of life, He is still in control and He still holds me in the palm of His hand! And once again I am not only reminded of His power, but also of His character. He is kind, good, merciful and loving. Yes! He is mighty! Yes! He is powerful! But Yes! He is still in control and, yes, he still holds me safe in the palm of His hand.
